Chinese ink painting can be traced back to the Eastern Jin Dynasty, when the initial ink painting was to express spiritual emotions through forms. The Song Dynasty was the heyday of ink painting, with landscape painting reaching a profound and ethereal realm, and flower and bird painting showing delicate and vivid skills. The Yuan Dynasty was a turning point for ink painting, with bold innovations such as splashed ink and color, as well as the rise of literati painting. After a thousand years of extension, from rough to fine brushwork, from ink to multimedia, this spirit runs through it.

In modern times, ink painting has faced the impact and challenge of Western painting, and many new attempts and changes have been made. On the one hand, some ink painters adhere to traditional techniques and spirit, striving for innovation in classics; on the other hand, some painters introduce elements and concepts of Western painting, striving for change in tradition. These pursuits make the contemporaneity of ink painting or Chinese painting present characteristics of diversified and openness. Not only are there ink paintings on paper, but also installations and mixed media art works; not only limited to black and white ink colors on paper, but also various forms of multimedia expression.

Through these works, people can feel the artistic conception of ink painting and the unique Chinese atmosphere with different creative concepts and methods. This exhibition hopes to present the uniqueness, possibility and extension of Chinese contemporary art.
