The influence of culture on people is profound and subtle.  Artistic creation is the most direct and profound expression.  It constantly goes through new development throughout the centuries; yet it never diverts from its core cultural value.  Ink painting, as an oldest artistic tradition in China, reflects the temperament and aesthetic taste of Chinese culture.  It links the ancient through the modern.

Art is a mixture of a personal interest and self-experience.  The spirit of Chinese ink art is embedded in most of the Chinese artists, and modern live and mindset are the materials for their art creation.  The mixture of both pushes the artists to create something different from the tradition.  How to convey the modern ideology with traditional Chinese ink becomes the main quest for the artists.

For these artists, ink is a hidden nostalgia.  Although the artists are getting used to the modern techniques and languages, the impact of the homeland culture are deep rooted in their mind.  Art is constantly searching for something new, and it is always attached to modern lives.  No matter how diverted and different Contemporary Chinese ink art become, the spirit of traditional ink art has always been their inspiration, taking them to a journey of self-discovery.
