Park Sungtae is a Korean Artist with eastern background. He depicts the relation of night and day, and shows an intersection between light and darkness, which are interchangeable to one another. Park drew significant attention by using the light and shadow as his medium for creation. His works was founded upon the theory of “Ying and Yang”. There exist a contrast between reason and intuition. The human forms and shadows speak about the material and the spiritual gathering and dispersion. Also, his human-shaped installations are not hanging in the space but “wandering”. And the shadow which is created by the penetration of lights forms another piece of work.

His wires produce various shadows depending on angles. The feeling of the shadow is controlled by his intention, and thus humans and times appear to be eccentric and mysterious. From his works, one can point out some characteristics of Chinese traditional ink painting. The strong and light brushstroke marks and the beauty of negative space are presented in his installation.

One could say that Park has achieved expressing the space in a brand new way. Rays of light freely penetrate into the wires, combining the actual and the virtual and connecting the forms and images. Such fusion is a series of images that are made of the truth and the false.

As a renowned artist of Korea, Park Sungtae’s arts have set a new trend of Korean contemporary art to his contemporaries.
